11 ottobre 2023

The National Regional Affairs Department of Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers organizes in Brussels for the European Week of Regions (#EURegionsWeek) the Workshop “Tackling fragmentation of local government towards shared sustainable community solutions”, scheduled on 12 October at the SQUARE Brussels Meeting Centre at 9.30 a.m. (Room 210), within the framework of the ITALIAE Project.

An important opportunity to discuss between the Municipalities Unions of the ITALIAE network and European bodies on the theme of administrative fragmentation, a problem shared by other European countries such as France, Germany and Poland, but also an opportunity to share at European level the concrete solutions and procedures adopted by the project for the optimisation of local government.

The debate will be introduced by Daniele Dotto, European Commission - Head of Unit Unit B.2 Governance & Public Administration DG Reform and Giovanni Vetritto, General Director of the Italian Regional Affairs Department and Head of the ITALIAE Project. The panel focused on the issue of local government fragmentation will be animated by the experiences of Italian Municipalities Union Romagna Faentina (Emilia-Romagna Region) and and Camposampierese Federation from Veneto Region.

ITALIAE is a project co-founded under the "Governance and Institutional Capacity" Operational Programme 2014-2020 (PON Governance). The project aims to support the local public bodies and the Italian municipalities to join their administrative forces and to associate the management of local services in order to optimize the functions according to the specific needs expressed by the territories and the local communities.

Thanks to this project, the Italian National Regional Affairs Department tackles the administrative fragmentation of the Italian municipalities, promoting local government optimization processes.
